1. President nominates 6 eminent members to RajyaSabha


President Pranab Mukherjee has nominated six eminent members to RajyaSabha as per the provisions of Article 80 of the Constitution.

§      Under article 80 of the Constitution, the Council of States (RajyaSabha) is composed of not more than 250 members, of whom 12 are nominated by the President of India from amongst persons who have special knowledge or practical experience in respect of such matters as literature, science, art and social service.

2. India signs Paris climate pact along with over 170 nations at UN  

India has signed the historic Paris climate agreement at United Nations in New York along with more than 170 nations, marking a significant step to combat global warming. 

 Environment Minister PrakashJavadekar has signed the agreement in the UN General Assembly hall at a high-level ceremony hosted by UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon.
§  The ceremony was attended by heads of governments, foreign ministers, corporate leaders and artists from across the world.

3. Bhupendra Kainthola appointed FTII Director

Indian Information Service (IIS) officer of 1989 batch BhupendraKainthola has been appointed as Director of Film and Television Institute of India (FTII). 

§  He will replace PrashantPathrabe and shall have tenure of three years.
§  Prior, he was serving as Director (News Room) with DD News since January 2015.

4. India replaces China as top FDI destination in 2015: FDI Intelligence Report
      



According to FDI Intelligence Report India has replaced China as the top Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) destination by attracting $63 billion worth FDI projects in 2015




5.Indian Diplomat Amitav Banerji Honoured By Cyprus
             


     An Indian diplomat in the UK, 1975 batch Indian Foreign Service (IFS) AmitavBanerji has been conferred with one of the highest awards of Cyprus. 


                  




6. Kendra Sangeet Natak Akademi Samman for 3 Odiya artists
    Three eminent Odiya artists PrafullaKar,AlokaKanungo and SadasivPradhan have been selected for the prestigious Kendra SangeetNatakAkademiSamman from Odisha.  This was announced in a meeting of the Kendra Sangeet NatakAkademi held in Agartala recently.

7. Flame for Rio Olympic Games Lit in Greece 

The Olympic torch for the upcoming Rio Games in Brazil has been lit in southern Greece. 

   §   The flame, which was lit by Greek actor Katerina Lehou at an ancient Greek site, will be carried by various runners on international relay.
   §  The relay will culminate on the opening ceremony of the Games at Maracana Stadium in Rio de Janeiro on the 5th of August.


    8. Manoj Bajpayee to receive Dadasaheb Phalke award for 'Aligarh'
  

                    
       Acclaimed actor ManojBajpayee will be honoured with the DadasahebPhalke Award in the Best Actor category (Critics’ Choice) for his performance in Hansal Mehta’s biographical drama, “Aligarh”.
