1. Riyad Mahrez becomes first African footballer
to win PFA Player of the Year
Riyad Mahrez a professional footballer who plays for English club
Leicester City and the Algerian national team as a winger has became the first
African footballer to win the Professional Footballers Association’s (PFA)
Player of the Year award.
He also became the second non-European, after Uruguayan striker -
Luis Suarez- to win this prestigious award in the sport of Football.
2 IT dept to pay interest on TDS refund
The Income Tax (I-T) department will now add interest amount to a
delayed refund made on excess tax deducted at source (TDS) cut and will
also not litigate with the deductor on this issue in the future.
3 Finance Ministry approves 8.7% interest on EPF
for 2015-16
The Finance Ministry has approved 8.7% interest on PF deposits,
lower than 8.8% decided by the Central Board of Trustees (CBT).
This is for the first time that Finance Ministry has overruled the
decision of retirement fund body EPFO's apex decision making Central Board of
Trustees (CBT) headed by the Labour Minister.
4 TVS Racing Appoints Shreya Iyer as Team's
First Woman Racer
TVS Racing has signed Shreya
Sunder Iyer as it's first woman rider for the upcoming two-wheeler Indian
National Rally championship. Shreya will begin her career with K1000, which is
the first round. There will be five more rounds after this.
5 South Sudan rebel chief Riek Machar sworn in
as vice-president
South Sudanese rebel leader Riek Machar has been sworn in as
vice-president. His appointment is seen as a step towards ending a conflict
that has killed tens of thousands. He was welcomed by President Salva Kiir
ahead of forming a unity government.
6 . Shyam Benegal Committee Recommendations on the functioning of Censor Board
The Shyam Benegal Committee, set up by the Centre to look into the functioning of the Censor Board, has submitted its report to Union Information and Broadcasting (I&B) minister Arun Jaitley.
The panel was set up on January 2016, to take a relook at the functioning of the Censor Board headed by Pahlaj Nihalani.
Recommendations of Shyam Benegal Committee :
- Censor Board of Film Certification’s (CBFC) role should be restricted to categorising the suitability of films to various audience groups based on age and maturity.
- Certification guidelines should allow the audience to make informed viewing decisions and ensure artistic expression and creative freedom are not unduly curbed.
- The CBFC should refuse certification when a film contains anything that contravenes with the Cinematograph Act, or if the content of the film crosses the ceiling laid down in the highest category of certification.
- In addition to different classifications that we have currently, we should have two categories of U/A, one plus 12 years of age and one plus 15 years of age and two categories of adult, one is normal adult and another adult with caution.
7 Tourism Ministry launches NMAs Online Web Portal NOAPS
Union Tourism Ministry has launched National Monuments Authority Web Portal called NOC Online Application and Processing System (NOAPS) that will provide single window clearance within six working days to applicants seeking no-objection certificates (NoC) for construction-related works near 3686 ASI protected monuments in the country.
